1/2 oz Amaro Averna
1/2 oz Sweet Vermouth (Giacomo Speroni)
1/4 oz Campari
1 dash Angostura Bitters
Stir with ice, strain into a rocks glass with ice, and garnish with a cherry-orange slice on a pick (cherry only).

quality versus quantity does not have to be a winner-take-all proposition.

The proportions make this more of a bitter, complex Manhattan variant rather than a Boulevardier variant, and it is reminiscent of bourbon versions of other (simpler) Manhattan variants with amaros like the Black Manhattan, the Longshoreman, or the Monte Berico. This would probably be good with rye, too.
