3/4 oz Lime Juice
1/2 oz Ginger Syrup
Shake with ice and strain into a Collins glass filled with crushed ice. Top with ~1 oz soda water and float 1/2 oz Fernet Branca. Garnish with a lime wheel and add a straw.

quality versus quantity does not have to be a winner-take-all proposition.

I really want to like Ransom's Old Tom - they're local and one of the few barrel aged gins that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. For some reason the batch I got tastes of little but cardamom, which is kind of off-putting, so I only ever use it in small amounts as an adjunct to other gins. I've heard that it's normally not like that, so mine might have been a more experimental batch.
Unfortunately, Hayman's OTG is a bit underwhelming and Ransom OTG is a bit overwhelming. Wish there was something in the middle.
