1 1/2 oz Del Maguey Mezcal Vida (Fidencio)
3/4 oz Carpano Sweet Vermouth (Cocchi)
3/4 oz Aperol
3 dash Regan's Orange Bitters (Angostura Orange)
Stir with ice, strain into a double old fashioned glass with a large ice cube, and garnish with an orange twist.
Two Tuesdays ago, I delved into my new purchase of Dale DeGroff's
The New Craft of the Cocktail book, and I spotted Steve Olson's La Vida Buena. This mezcal drink reminded me of the
Dub Treo and
Pulitzer with its sweet vermouth and Aperol combination. Once prepared, La Vida Buena proffered an orange oil over Aperol's orange notes and mezcal's smoke to the nose. Next, orange and grape on the sip turned into smoke, vegetal, and savory flavors on the swallow.
