one in the chamber

1 1/4 oz Buffalo Trace Bourbon (Evan Williams Bonded)
1/4 oz Benedictine
1/4 oz Cynar
1/4 oz Cafe Lolita (Borghetti)
2 dash Peychaud's Bitters

Stir with ice, strain into an old fashioned glass with a large ice cube, and garnish with an orage twist.
Two Thursdays ago, I returned to the same online recipe flashcard set for Good Company in Saint Louis that I sourced the Isla Bonita about a week and a half before. There, the One in the Chamber as perhaps a Revolver riff from their Fall 2024 menu seemed like it would hit the spot. While I have enjoyed drinks that combine Benedictine and Cynar like the 100 Year Old Cigar, Cynar and coffee liqueur like the Lake Union, and Benedictine and coffee liqueur like the Delores del Rio, I have never had all three in a glass at once. Here, the One in the Chamber shot off with orange, roast, and herbal aromas. Next, roast notes on the sip percolated into Bourbon, coffee, herbal, and anise flavors on the swallow.

I love this type of cocktail. Rich complex flavors, and served over a big rock to be able to enjoy how the flavor profile changes throughout the entirety of the drink. The combination of cynar, coffee liqueur, benedictine and peychaud’s is excellent. Thanks for sharing this one.
