Two Fridays ago, I was perusing the
KindredCocktails database when I came across the Do The Right Thing. What I believe is a reference to Spike Lee's influential 1989 movie, this drink was crafted by Isaac Cohen in 2015 at the Iris Cafe in Brooklyn a few miles from where the movie was filmed. Overall, the combination reminded me of a rye-based
Brooklyn crossed with
An Apple Tree Grows in Brooklyn but with amaretto subbing for the nutty Maraschino. Once in the glass, the Do the Right Thing came forward with lemon, apple, and caramel orange aromas. Next, a caramel-noted sip marched into rye, apple, and bitter dark orange flavors on the swallow.
