3/4 oz Smith & Cross Rum
3/4 oz Cynar
3/4 oz Falernum (Velvet)
3/4 oz Lime Juice
Shake with ice, strain into a coupe glass, and garnish with a grapefruit twist.
Two Thursdays ago, I was perusing various online flashcard sets, and a recipe appeared on both the Dutch Kills and Raines Law Room collections called The Brooks. They were both the same save for the former version having a grapefruit twist and the latter lacking a garnish. Overall, the combination reminded me of the
Commercial Free that utilized Old Monk Rum and grapefruit juice instead of Smith & Cross and lime but kept the equal parts nature and the Cynar and falernum duo intact. Once prepared, The Brooks showcased grapefruit oil over caramel and rum funk aromas. Next, the caramel continued on into the sip where it mingled with the lime, and the swallow rounded things up with rum, vegetal, and tropical flavors.
Post note 10/26/23: I uncovered that it was created by Theo Lieberman at Milk & Honey, and he was there from 2009-2014.

What are these online flashcard sets you're mentioning? Sorry if it was explained before — I'm really bad with searching on "blogger"
Here's the Dutch Kills flashcards: https://www.chegg.com/flashcards/dutch-kills-5c067d08-a508-412d-8f2d-778bd2f70d6e/deck
Found this from a recent reddit post. Loved the drink (a combo of things I love) and will be trying the Old Monk one it is based on purely because I have most of a bottle of Old Monk which I hate (to me, it's like they took Black Seal and made it out of the cheapest products available... and I like Black Seal), so any cocktail which uses it and is described as "delightful" by someone I respect as much as you very seriously intrigues me.
I tried to check out the flash cards and it now says "This page has graduated". Any idea what's up? I'm all in on cocktail flash cards.
Chegg canceled their flashcard service. There was so much good stuff on there and still left to find. No clue why they did that.
